","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"En efecto, lo que ellos creyeron no pasaría de ser una curiosidad científica (fotografías proyectadas a una cierta velocidad para dar la ilusión del movimiento) se convirtió en tres años en una complicadísima forma de espectáculo y de industria. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Cuatro meses después de la gran velada nocturna de los Lumière, Thomas Alva Edison (inventor del bombillo) patentó en Estados Unidos proyector y cámara tomavistas, y desde ese momento Estados Unidos se convirtió en el país de mayor y más influyente producción. Para Georges Méliès, el segundo director más importante, en orden cronológico, en la historia del cine, era un arte; ambos se vieron obligados a retirarse (Méliès, más que retirarse, quebró) ante los empujes de la industria cinematográfica norteamericana. Las cosas no han cambiado mucho hasta el día de hoy. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Estados Unidos se dedicó a mostrar aspectos cotidianos de la vida, incluyendo algunas veces una que otra farsa moral de carácter edificante. No sería sino después de la Revolución Bolchevique de 1917, que se encontró en el cine un potencial de comentario dirigido: ya no se trataba de mostrar la realidad sino de transmitir ideas, contando, de antemano, con grandes posibilidades de aceptación en el espectador. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Es decir, se logró la seguridad de que si se pegaban seis planos de tres formas diferentes se lograrían tres ideas o emociones diferentes en el espectador, y que con toda seguridad este las transmitiría a sus allegados, parientes y amigos. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Pues si el control del partido sobre el contenido (es decir, la forma) de los films soviéticos, debido a una estricta militarización en la cultura, han convertido al cine soviético en la lamentable expresión artística que es hoy, el espíritu, formas de puesta en escena y de montaje de la Rusia de la época, ha pasado a ser expresión de los países del tercer mundo que más sufren la dominación económica y cultural del imperialismo.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"De más está, pues, aseverar que, por el doble carácter de arte y de industria altamente rentable que tiene el cine, está ligado a una serie de aconteceres de orden político, y que tiene que ver, en su funcionamiento, con las organizaciones políticas propiamente dichas. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Esta politización de la industria, por así decirlo, se ha agudizado en los últimos años, cuando la decadencia del sistema capitalista ha obligado a investir a su producto medio industrial, de toda una ideología dirigida, es decir, apartándose cada vez más del “humanismo” e “imparcialidad” de que se jactaban hacia los años cuarenta.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Lo que comenzó siendo la distracción ideal para los analfabetos, es hoy el arte de los analfabetos.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Un cine como el mexicano, especialmente preocupado en fomentar la cultura de la ignorancia, se vería duramente perjudicado en el caso de que el sesenta por ciento de su público aprendiera a leer y escribir. Tendría que darle una vuelta de campana a su estética toda, o desaparecer. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Sabemos que no tiene intenciones de lo uno ni de lo otro, así que su mayor interés es, de hecho, que el pueblo que es su público no aprenda a leer.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Pero es también el arte de los intelectuales. Discernir o explicar el mensaje de una película es tenido, entre los círculos intelectuales burgueses, como señal de “inteligencia al día” y refinamiento.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Porque desde 1915, cuando el cine dejó de ser un subalterno del teatro y la literatura, para, utilizándolos, y utilizando la danza y la pintura y la escultura, formar un lenguaje propio, independiente, con su propio código gramático, ha ido ganándose cada vez más sectores cultos de la sociedad, ha apartado gente de las salas de teatro, ha dado pie a numerosos escritos críticos, explicativos, etc.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Pero ante el fenómeno de la proyección, el analfabeto y el intelectual cuentan con los mismos instrumentos de aprehensión: la vista y el oído. Es probable que un individuo de ciudad no tenga nunca contacto con el libro; es improbable que no lo tenga con el cine.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Es la diversión más barata, la de más concurrencia, todo el mundo va al cine, todo el mundo está, pues, en posición de ser influenciado; su conducta, llegado el momento de recibir ciertos estímulos, puede ser modificada. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Tocaría, entonces, preguntarse ¿hasta qué punto el público es consciente de esto: de que sobre él se está operando, cada vez que va al cine, una transmisión de una moral y una ideología dada? Si una persona de cultura media lee un libro cada semana durante un año entero, es muy probable que al término del año su conocimiento sea mayor, que tenga nuevos y mejores puntos de referencia para actuar ante la vida. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Del otro lado, si una persona de cultura media va al cine todos los días de un año, es muy probable que: 1) sepa menos del cine que cuando empezó a verlo, 2) su comportamiento ante la vida haya quedado bastante desfigurado, que tales sesiones de orden cultural le hayan causado ciertos traumas y neurosis de los que no fue consciente en el proceso de transmisión y que ahora le será muy difícil controlar y evitar que sigan aumentando, casi que en progresión geométrica.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Entre los miles de espectadores que conforman la siempre constante afluencia a las salas cinematográficas, podemos distinguir algunos:","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"1) El espectador medio, pequeño burgués, que va unas dos veces por semana al cine, después del trabajo, y siempre acompañado.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"2) El espectador intelectual, de formación universitaria, que reconoce en el cine una poderosa forma de expresión y penetración ideológica, y que prefiere, llegado el momento de escoger, films de directores de calidad reconocida: Fellini, Buñuel, Pasolini, Bergman, y películas italianas de izquierda.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"3) El lumpen, que cubre íntegra la programación de cada día de las salas de barrio o sectores en donde cunde la delincuencia. Se refugia en el cine para huirle al trabajo. Entra a las dos de la tarde, se repite el programa dos veces, duerme, y sale ya de noche, a dormir. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"bold":true,"text":"¿Por qué, entonces esta desventaja, esta falta de control, esta supremacía del objeto cultural sobre el hombre que lo recibe?","type":"text"},{"text":" De todas las expresiones artísticas el cine es la que menos esfuerzo de abstracción demanda para su aprehensión. El espectador sufre con los personajes, sigue sus intereses, comparte sus infortunios. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"En teatro, cuando un personaje es asesinado, el espectador tiene que hacer una abstracción más o menos complicada: no ha habido muerte real, es el actor que representa la muerte. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"En cine, personaje y actor están muertos, y sería cuestión digna de averiguar por cuál de los dos sentimos mayor pena. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Encerrado de la realidad en la cómoda oscuridad y temperatura de la sala de cine, el espectador contempla esa ventana de la realidad que es la pantalla. No hay que proponerse un método de abstracción. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"El espectáculo, de por sí, abstrae al espectador. No hay interrupción posible que nos haga quitar los ojos de la pantalla, y no tenemos derecho a hablar durante la proyección. Tenemos que ver callados y salir impresionados. La única manera de distraerse de la proyección sería cerrar los ojos.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Es por esto que creemos que el cine, de todas la artes, es la que más dificultades pone para adoptar ante ella un mecanismo de distanciamiento, y por lo tanto, de reconocimiento, por separado, de cada uno de los elementos que conforman la obra terminada, y por lo tanto también, de lectura cuidadosa.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Es también la que más dificultad y variedad de trabajos ofrece durante su elaboración. Entre la idea y la realización de la obra literaria, está de por medio una situación feliz, un esfuerzo de voluntad, que es cuando el escritor, pluma en mano, se decide a escribir, siendo también este momento privilegiado, uno de los más misteriosos de la ocupación literaria. Entre la idea y la realización de la obra cinematográfica media un trabajo de construcción del guión (para el cual se precisan conocimientos de montaje, y por ende, específicamente técnicos del cine), acercamiento y acuerdo con un grupo de personas, actores, entrevistados y técnicos, utilización de un cierto número de maquinaria, las más de las veces complicada, y sobre todo, consecución de una cantidad de dinero más que considerable. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Los aspectos de distribución de la obra terminada son semejantes a los de la literatura, en cuanto tiene que haber un mecanismo central de distribución o impresión.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Como bien apuntan los compañeros del CIDAB en su ponencia, ","type":"text"},{"bold":true,"text":"poco importa una idea genial","type":"text"},{"text":", o poco certifica una idea genial la calidad en sí de la obra de arte. Con todo, sería útil discutir si en novelas como La invención de Morel de Bioy y Otra vuelta de tuerca de James encontraron (los autores) cosas nuevas durante su desarrollo, o si en realidad la genialidad de las obras no estaba ya implícita en la escogencia del tema, y si el desarrollo completo de las obras no se encontraba ya en la mente de los autores antes de decidirse a sentarse y ponerlas en el papel.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Citar estas dos novelas es citar también un conocido prólogo de Borges, pero sirven aquí en la medida de las extraordinarias posibilidades que ambos textos ofrecen para una adaptación cinematográfica.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Entre la idea y la obra terminada, en el cine, se da un proceso largo y complicado. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Filmación, con sonido directo o si no, después de filmación, doblaje: mezcla de las tres pistas de sonido, ruidos, diálogos, música. Montaje del film. La idea original, como lo dice un director de cine español radicado en Colombia, puede verse desvirtuada en el proceso, unas veces, incluso, para bien de la obra, libre de lo que su autor piense de ella.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Un film se escribe en la pantalla, y en dos dimensiones. Es por eso que a la unidad cinematográfica se le ha llamado plano, que puede equivaler a la palabra, y a la frase e incluso (plano-secuencia), al capítulo. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"El espectador cineasta, interesado en el cine en cuanto a estructura, empieza a ejercitar la lectura del empalme y dirección de las imágenes. Sabe que un teleobjetivo elimina la perspectiva y que por eso, agrupa bonito a los elementos dentro de cuadro, y que es, entonces, la escritura ideal para mostrar a la pareja de enamorados, tomados de la mano, por la playa, o la pareja de enamorados que no se ven hace veinte años y corren a abrazarse, corren y corren y parece como si nunca avanzaran; y aprende también que si no es, por ejemplo, Visconti, el que usa el teleobjetivo (y su contraparte, el zoom), con su peculiar manera de penetrar, por medio de él una realidad o sufrimiento de una persona, se convierte, en su uso sistemático, en una mala escritura. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Sabe que el lente corto dará mucha perspectiva o profundidad de campo, y que significa que los dos sujetos dentro de cuadro, pero muy separados entre sí, pasan por un momento de agitación que los relaciona (ya que ambos están en foco). ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Es que en cine, las diferentes distancias de los planos, su escogencia, valen lo que el sustantivo y el adjetivo. El uso de la cámara lenta le dará “poesía” al conjunto. El uso del acelerado, una nota “burlesca”. Si la cámara se acerca mucho al rostro de un actor, nos indica que ese actor está pensando algo importante, o que se apresta a contar una historia, y dado este caso, al primer plano del actor le seguirá una disolvencia y un flash-back. La disolvencia también le concede a la imagen un tono de poesía en el paso del tiempo, y el fundido a negro indica cierre de capítulo y elipsis temporal. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"El espectador cineasta tratará, entonces, de prever los conjuntos de escrituras, la puntuación de la siguiente frase, para lo cual empieza a imaginarse el espacio que se está dando fuera de cuadro, en el momento de la filmación. Aprende, entonces, a mirar no solamente el objeto filmado sino lo invisible: la cámara. Si el film coincide con ella, es progresista, y por lo tanto, bueno.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"El espectador de extracción proletaria y de formación lumpesca, aquel que acude diariamente a las salas ubicadas en sectores de criminalidad, juzga las películas según coincidan con la práctica de su realidad, que es cruel y peligrosa. De allí el saboteo y la rechifla a películas fantásticas, etc.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":" ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"El hombre de letras acude al cine, las más veces, para ampliar su cultura general. Juzga las películas según la importancia de “los temas”. Muchas veces se decide a escribir crítica de cine, alabando o condenando los resultados de la obra, nunca ocupándose de los diferentes posibles modos que se presentaban ante el director, y el porqué de la escogencia de solo uno de ellos, el correcto.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Mientras que el espectador cineasta intenta atrapar, en esa forma definitiva y autónoma que es el film durante la proyección, el momento de puesta en escena, que es también concepto, y el definitivo para el acercamiento crítico a cualquier film; puesta en escena es la relación creada por el director entre los movimientos de la cámara y de los actores, durante el rodaje. La fase del montaje es la organización y dirección final de esa puesta en escena.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Sucede entonces que este espectador cineasta intenta conversar con otros espectadores, de los anotados más arriba, sobre un film querido. Para su consternación, encuentra, de los sectores más cultos a los más ignorantes, opiniones que las más de las veces no corresponden a conceptos sino a gustos, o conceptos elaborados con base en una única visión separada del film, sin que la persona tenga información de la relación de ese film con otros del mismo director, por ejemplo. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Sucede, entonces, que ante una discusión cinematográfica, nuestro cineasta opta por el silencio, luego por la lejanía, después por algo más grave que es la soledad. Se va convirtiendo en lo que llaman un cinéfilo. Ya no entiende a las personas, ya no necesita enamorarse de mujeres reales: para qué, si en la pantalla las tiene mejores y más inteligentes; se aparta de las actividades colectivas; va todos los días a cine; repite películas; empalidece; llega a extremos tales como autoconvencerse de que sólo respira bien en la soledad del cine, y que afuera lo persiguen; busca, instintivamente, el sitio de la sala que corresponde al lado del cual sueña; se va volviendo huraño y tosco y torpe; tartamudea; no le hace caso sino a su propio juicio. Si las circunstancias no le son del todo adversas, puede que encuentre a otro sujeto tan enfermo como él, y en ese caso empieza un deambular de ojeras y de soledad compartidas, lo que significa al menos un progreso.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"bold":true,"text":"Para evitar este malestar, se da, entonces la necesidad de una organización política:","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"bold":true,"text":"a) En la producción. ","type":"text"},{"text":"El grupo de cineastas acuerda, con la organización, sectores claves de la población para la proyección de películas didácticas y políticas. Una o dos proyecciones no significan nada. Es ideal un trabajo previo, antropológico de la comunidad, y un contacto posterior, permanente, con ella.","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"bold":true,"text":"c) En la crítica.","type":"text"},{"text":" La necesidad de que el dirigente y orientador político se informe cinematográficamente. Muchas veces, la estructuración marxista de un espectador no lo hace capaz de descubrir un film reaccionario, falsamente disfrazado, cuando la simple información de las obras anteriores del director suplirían todo un conocimiento. Desde este punto de vista, el dirigente político debe ser muy cuidadoso de los films que recomienda, no vaya a ser que esté alabando una película de buenos (comunistas) y malos (reaccionarios), distribuida por uno de los grandes trusts norteamericanos. Sabido es que todas las películas “políticas” italianas obedecen a una creciente demanda del público medio, de participar y estar informados del clima de actividad y agitación política que se vive desde la Revolución Cubana y la decadencia del imperialismo, y que como tal, se ha conformado en un género específico, que les está rindiendo pingües ganancias a los mismos norteamericanos: la Paramount (Gulf + Western) y la Warner Bros (A Kinney Company).","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"El cine no ha cumplido aún los ochenta años, y no es demasiado aventurado afirmar que ha puesto a funcionar el mundo según su ritmo, que las culturas y subculturas cada vez son más escasas provenientes de la literatura que del cine. ","type":"text"}]},{"type":"paragraph","children":[{"text":"Que por su misma juventud ofrece una de las más fascinantes posibilidades que se le pueden ofrecer a hombre alguno: la posibilidad de saberlo todo al respecto. Los cálculos han demostrado que solo un dos por ciento de la producción mundial vale la pena verse. Lo que valga la pena, y no se pueda, se puede leer.
